Overview
A Meta business portfolio (formerly called Business Manager) is a tool that lets you manage your Facebook Pages, ad accounts, and other business assets in one place. You can require that people who access your business portfolio turn on two-factor authentication — an extra security step that requires a verification code in addition to a password each time they log in from an unrecognized device.
When you turn on this requirement, everyone it applies to must set up two-factor authentication on their personal Facebook account before they can access the business portfolio. You can share how to turn on two-factor authentication for Facebook accounts with people in your business portfolio so they know how to set it up.
Who can turn on the two-factor authentication requirement
Only people with full control of the business portfolio can turn on or turn off the two-factor authentication requirement. Full control means the person has permission to manage all settings, access, billing, and assets in the business portfolio.
When is two-factor authentication automatically required for a Meta business portfolio?
The two-factor authentication requirement works differently depending on how long ago your business portfolio was created:
-
Business portfolios less than 90 days old: Two-factor authentication is optional. A person with full control can choose to turn it on for admins only, for everyone, or leave it off.
-
Certain business portfolios more than 90 days old: For security reasons, Meta automatically requires two-factor authentication for some business portfolios that are more than 90 days old. If this applies to your business portfolio, you cannot turn off the requirement.
How to turn on or turn off the two-factor authentication requirement
- Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite (the central hub for managing your business assets on Facebook and Instagram).
- Select Business portfolio info.
- Scroll down to the Business options section.
- Select the dropdown menu next to Two-factor authentication.
- Choose who the requirement applies to:
-
Admins only — Only people with full control of the business portfolio must use two-factor authentication.
-
Everyone — All people with any level of access to the business portfolio must use two-factor authentication.
-
No one — Turns off the two-factor authentication requirement. (This option is not available if Meta has automatically required two-factor authentication for your business portfolio.)
-
- Confirm your selection. The requirement takes effect immediately. People who have not yet set up two-factor authentication will be prompted to do so the next time they try to access the business portfolio.
